Cub Scout Pack

Visit To NYPD Aviation Unit
November 10, 2006

On Friday, November 10, 2006, members of Pack 123 drove into the NYPD Aviation Unit at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn. The scouts spent the morning learning about the helicopters and talking to the pilots who answered some very tricky questions. After a short lunch break in a nearby baseball field, the scouts were able to watch a live training mission where scuba divers from the NYPD Scuba unit jumped from helicopters into the cold bay and rescued people from the water. After being rescued, the survivors were lifted into the helicopter. This action packed day was wrapped up in the afternoon with a visit from the elite Emergency Services Unit (ESU). Officers gave a tour of an ESU truck and demonstrated some of the lifesaving equipment stored on the trucks and fielded many questions from the scouts and parents. It was a great day had by all !
Thanks Mr. B
